Join us for fun and activities for the entire
family to “Go to Bat for Bats!” With your help, we can hit a home run
and make a huge difference!
0930 – 1015: NGLVC Theatre – Bat Program with Live Bats. Join
Brian Heeringa, US Forest Service Wildlife Biologist, as he gives a
presentation to dispel the myths and legends surrounding bats, shows how
critically important they are to our environment, and discusses ways in which
you can help them right in your own neighborhood. Following the program will be
an opportunity to meet two live big brown bats up close and personal.
1015-1200: Games, Activities & Native Planting along the
Aldo Leopold Nature Trail. After the presentation enjoy a variety of games and
activities in and around the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. Bring a
baseball cap and make your own bat ears to wear to show your support for bats.
Try your hand at being a bat biologist, find out what a bat eats, or take a
swing for bat conservation and see how far you can hit the ball in our batty
wiffle ball competition. In addition to these and other activities we will also
be planting native plants along the Aldo Leopold Nature Trail to improve the
local habitat for bats and other wildlife and insect species. Gloves and
planting tools will be provided.
